Walt Radda is a freelance/ community newspaper cartoonist based in the rural regions northeast of Toronto. Walt began his cartooning career as an underground caricaturist/commentator/general nuisance during his twenty-seven years as an autoworker at the General Motors facility in Oshawa, Ontario. This sideline often landed him in hot water, but also gave him the confidence to try and share what he did - albeit in a more civilized manner - with a wider audience, which in 1997 landed him the position of editorial cartoonist at the Port Perry Star. Walt has been at it ever since, through several different papers, and has been recognized for his work numerous times by both the Ontario and Canadian Community Newspaper Associations. Walt also produces a wide variety of commissioned work, and has contributed his weekly Home Team strips to the papers steadily for almost twenty years now.
Everything in the Home Team strips is essentially as it is in real life. Walt is married to his high school sweetheart Birgit, and together they have produced five lovely daughters, all of whom are very good sports as they have seen their assorted mishaps and shenanigans publicly portrayed through the strips all these many years. The Home Team cartoons have always been a popular feature, to the point where local businesses have taken to sponsoring the strip's appearance in the papers. Perhaps the most gratifying thing is when Walt and his family come across examples of the strip snipped from the paper and pinned up in various locations around the towns in which it is featured - it has turned up in restaurants, shops, school lockers and occasionally, the police station (in a good way!).
